Time and Light
This is a folio of intimate landscapes; landscapes that are small in scale or represent only a portion of the sweep of the whole. The tight focus often creates an air of impressionism. Equally important as the objects in the image is the quality of the light. We are accustomed to the soft light of the morning or afternoon, the hard light of the midday. We unconsciously recognize the color, depth of contrast, and texture associated with these times of day. Time is implicitly represented in other ways in these images. Whether it’s the color of the rocks that originated at different times, the work of past glaciers that smoothed the surface, the rivers and streams that over time modify the surface landscape. Even the colorful microorganisms in hot springs echo the life early in the earth’s history. Perhaps each image will remind you of a time that is pleasant to remember.
